What is collected

Nothing, by default. The checker runs in your browser. Your answers are not sent anywhere unless you ask for the result by email.
If you ask for the result by email: your email address, the box you ticked to consent, your five checker answers and the verdict shown. The answers are kept so we can tell you if a date that affects you changes, and so we can see which kinds of businesses are asking.
If you click a provider’s name in the directory: the provider’s name and the time of the click. Not who clicked.
If you report an error: your message, the page it is about, and your email if you choose to give it.
A count of completed checks, with the verdict only, so we know the checker is being used.
In your own browser only: the software answer you gave in the checker is kept in this browser tab so the provider directory can mark providers that work with it. It is not sent to us and disappears when the tab closes.

No cookies are set. No analytics service runs. No advertising.

Email addresses and checker answers are held by Buttondown, the email service we use, which stores its data in the United States. You confirm your address by email before you are added (double opt-in). A copy of each sign-up, with the same five answers, is kept in Cloudflare’s key-value storage on our account, which replicates worldwide. If the email service is unavailable when you sign up, your request is kept in that storage and the confirmation email is sent once the service is live; you are never emailed before you confirm.
Provider clicks, completion counts and error reports are kept in the same Cloudflare storage.
The site itself is served by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare sees the usual connection details for any web request and we do not combine them with anything above.

We do not use any other service.

Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom.
Ask for your data to be deleted at any time through the Contact page. It will be deleted within seven days and you will get a confirmation.

Any change to what is collected is published here on the same day it takes effect.
